Longtime NBA broadcaster Ahmad Rashad is going back to the future, this time to the redesigned NBA app.

The new “NBA Rewind with Ahmad Rashad” will debut exclusively on the app Tuesday at 1 p.m. ET. 

The name comes from a popular segment on Rashad’s old “NBA Inside Stuff” show on NBC Sports.

Rashad’s return will remind some viewers of the television glory days of the “NBA on NBC” from 1995 to 2002.

Along with Bob Costas, Rashad was one of NBC’s most popular and versatile TV announcers, hosting the award-winning “NBA Inside Stuff” for 16 seasons.

With the NBA’s TV rights expiring with ESPN and TNT after the 2024-2025 season, NBC wants back in on the media rights, according to CNBC. 

According to sources, the league is seeking a combined $75 billion or more for its next long-term cycle of rights deal. Bidders are expected to include media companies ranging from the incumbent ESPN and TNT to NBC, Fox, Amazon, and Apple.

On today’s premiere episode, the host and executive producer will interview Steph Curry, the four-time NBA champion and two-time MVP.

The duo will discuss, Curry’s early career challenges with the Golden State Warriors, how he keeps elevating his game, and his plans to cement his legacy.

Rashad will speak with the league’s biggest stars and legendary figures in future episodes.

Future guests for the new interview series will include Basketball Hall of Famers Shaquille O’Neal and Dominique Wilkins (For a sneak peek at the show, click here).

“‘NBA Rewind with Ahmad Rashad’ will provide an inside look at some of the NBA’s current greats along with legends themselves,” Rashad said in a statement. “Throughout the four decades that I have covered the league, I have learned that fans deeply appreciate my perspective on the game and the players, and ‘NBA Rewind with Ahmad Rashad’ will provide it to them on the NBA App.” 

Meanwhile, the NBA aims to make its new all-in-one app a destination for hoops fans. Part of that strategy is giving fans original content.

Rashad’s show will join other programming exclusively made for the app, including “Pass the Rock,” “Throw It Down with Bill Walton,” and “Gold Blooded.”
